OUR WORK IN UGANDA

Uganda is a nation full of potential. With a rich culture and a dynamic, youthful population, the country has made important strides in recent years. Improvements to education, healthcare and infrastructure have brought new opportunities to many communities.

Yet despite this progress, poverty remains a daily reality for millions, especially in rural areas. Nearly half of Uganda’s population is under the age of 15, and 24% of children under 5 are living in extreme poverty. Too many children are out of school, malnourished, or forced to work from a young age to help support their families.

80%

of children do not have access to any form of pre-school education.

73%

of children do not complete primary school.

18%

of young people are not participating in education, employment or training.

WHERE WE WORK

We support communities across the country where high levels of poverty are seriously limiting children’s access to opportunities. Currently, we work in Mbale, Budaka and Sironko in the Eastern Region; Omoro, Oyam, Nwoya and Pader in the Northern Region; and Ntoroko in the Western Region.

Driven by our needs assessments, our work in Uganda is focused in rural communities where there are elevated levels of school dropouts and child rights violations, and where there are no existing structures to protect children from these issues.
