OUR WORK IN MALAWI

Malawi, a small landlocked nation in south-eastern Africa often known as the Warm Heart of Africa, is also one of the least developed countries in the world, where around 70% of its 20 million people live in extreme poverty on less than $3 a day. This leaves many children without access to even the most basic necessities.

72%

of children do not have access to any form of pre-school education.

51%

of children do not complete primary school.

25%

of young people are not participating in education, employment or training.

WHERE WE WORK

We currently work with communities in two regions in Malawi – Salima and Nkhotakota – where high levels of poverty are seriously limiting children’s access to opportunities.

Driven by our needs assessments, our work is focused in rural communities where there are elevated levels of children dropping out of school and child rights violations, and where there are no existing structures to protect children from these issues.
