THE CHRISTOPHER DERODRA SCHOLARSHIP
Christopher discovered his passion for engineering at Tuthill and dreamed of returning as an apprentice to support the East African Safari Classic Rally. After his tragic passing, his family and the Tuthill team have chosen to carry that dream forward by backing a new training pathway for vulnerable young people in Africa.
This programme is built to develop skilled, confident and resilient young people who can build stable livelihoods, support their families and contribute meaningfully to local economic growth. It opens long term opportunities by combining vocational training with financial literacy, business skills and sustained psychosocial support.
In partnership with WeSeeHope, the scholarship will fund a three year programme that identifies motivated youth, strengthens their mental wellbeing and equips them with practical skills, enterprise training and start up tools. Twenty four trainees will progress through the full pathway, with a select group joining Tuthill at the 2027 East African Safari Classic Rally. Each graduate will then train two more young people, creating a steady flow of capable and well supported youth entering their local economies.
The initial phase will run in Uganda, with a second hub planned for Kenya after the 2027 Rally. Our goal is to secure £180,000 to launch this programme and build a lasting legacy in Christopher’s name.
