TRAINING YOUNG PEOPLE IN SKILLS AND ENTERPRISE FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVES

Many young people are unable to afford expensive secondary school fees and so are forced to drop out of the education system early, with little hope or opportunity for employment. We equip young people by giving them vocational training and teaching them business and entrepreneurship skills, which enables them to build a more secure future for themselves and those around them.

We also offer these young people emotional support and ‘life skills’ training to help them build better, healthier lives as they make the transition into adulthood.

HOW DO WE DO THIS?

  • We offer young people vocational skills, apprenticeships and start-up materials in areas such as tailoring, carpentry and mechanics.
  • By providing business skills training we improve literacy and numeracy skills and teach students how to run a business, find a market for their products or services and manage their money.
  • We offer this training to orphans and vulnerable children who have been forced to drop out of school or cannot afford secondary school fees, and particularly to those at risk of ending up on the streets.
  • Students who take part in vocational training are monitored, supported and cared for by our project partners who visit them at home. This helps to tackle difficult home situations, emotional issues and other challenges.
  • We provide mentoring after the vocational training to help graduates find apprenticeships and employment, or to guide them in starting their own businesses.
  • We encourage graduates to train other young people like them, and to pass on what they have learnt to their peers.
